Deadlines & Time Line:
The Scholarship Committee generally meets twice a year to select Scholarship recipients. Courses applied for can occur at any time, within the Eligibility Requirements listed above. Some courses require a considerable amount of preplanning, and applicants should keep that in mind, as well as when the Selection Committee meets, when formulating a Proposal.
FALL QUARTER SCHEDULE:
- 5th Week -- Executive Committee announces projected funds available to Scholarship Fund by end of Fall & Spring Quarter (other than donations). OLSP Selection Committee adds in donations to the Fund and announces overall projected funds available for Applicants.
- 5th Week -- Individuals seeking scholarships should submit to the Scholarship Committee a formal proposal. The candidate should have already applied for any other scholarships or financial assistance that might be available. The Scholarship Committee will likely be looking to maximize the return on the available scholarship dollars so it would behoove a scholarship candidate to obtain as much funding from other sources as possible.
- 8th Week -- The Scholarship Committee should present its recommendation to the UCMC general membership: Announce the name(s) of the award recipient(s), the amount(s) of the award(s), and the course(s) that (each) award is valid for. If the general membership fails to approve the recommendation by a margin of at least 2:1 (67% in favor), that money should not be awarded that year.
- 10th Week --Recipients must accept or decline awards within two weeks of when the announcement is made. Awards that are not accepted within that two-week period may be re-allocated. Payments may be issued anytime after the 10th week.
