Official Equipment Policy
USE OF CLUB EQUIPMENT IS A PRIVILEGE! Abuse of equipment or equipment policy will result in suspension of checkout privileges. The following procedures regarding equipment must be adhered to:
- All equipment must be returned before the meeting and taken out after the meeting.
- The equipment room will be open from 6:00 pm – 6:45 pm before the meeting. THIS IS THE TIME TO RETURN YOUR GEAR. If your gear is not returned at this time and no prior arrangements were made with the equipment manager, YOU WILL BE FINED!
- The equipment room will re-open immediately after the meeting. At this time, you may check out enough gear for one person (yourself). The equipment room will remain open until no one is left in line. Equipment will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis. Exceptions will include courses and large group trips which will have priority. NOTE: Lead climbing gear will be handled last. Membership cards must be presented to check out equipment. Gear must be returned on time and in acceptable condition.
- Acceptable condition: All equipment will be clean, dry and in good working order with no missing pieces.
- All equipment will be checked out for one week only.
- Check out period begins Wednesday after the meeting and ends the following Wednesday at 6:45pm. After this time, gear will be considered late.
- Longer checkouts may occasionally be made with the gear manager’s prior approval.
- The following equipment is also subject to the following:
- Boats and related equipment are subject to the policies and procedures set forth in the UCMC Whitewater Policy.
- Fines will be levied for, but not limited to the following reasons:
- Returning late gear
- Replacement fines for lost or broken equipment
- Returning equipment in unacceptable condition (i.e. dirty cook kits)
- Returning equipment wet (i.e. sleeping bags or tents)
Minimum fine- $5.00 per week
Maximum fine- Replacement cost of items
Nonpayment of fines- will result in a service block of UC transcript and grades
All fines and suspensions are at the discretion of the equipment manager. Any questions or problems regarding the equipment policy, fines, or equipment can be discussed with the equipment manager or the UCMC president.
