STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The University of Cincinnati Mountaineering Club (UCMC) is a four season club dedicated to self-awareness and education in the outdoors. We enhance the college experience by providing students with the opportunity to acquire leadership skills, experience team work, build self-confidence and participate in outdoor activities that may otherwise be out of reach. The UCMC takes part in (but is not limited to) cycling, climbing, caving, canoeing, backpacking, mountaineering, white water rafting, skiing , and skydiving. At our weekly meetings we strive to provide slide shows, speakers and educational classes to maintain a high level of interest. Such topics may include first aid, safety, equipment use and care, etc. Mountaineering Club members are also active in environmental issues. Club members plan trips and venture out each weekend. Longer trips are planned for each of the quarter breaks. Beginners receive instruction as they go along. Optionally, the UCMC offers more formal instruction in the form of beginners' courses (caving, climbing, etc.) each quarter. We have around 50 dues paying members and a typical weekly meeting attendance of 20 to 30 people.
